Samuel J 18; Amanda 15; Margaret 13; Robert 11; Constance F; 8,

BEVERLY/ BARKER/ WILLIAMS/ SHERWOOD
I would like information of any kind regarding the BEVERLY
family. Frank and Sophronia BARKER BEVERLY lived in IL prior to
1850. Their son, Arthur BEVERLY (b.1853 Logan Co., IL) married
his childhood sweetheart, Laura E. WILLIAMS when they lived in
Atlanta, IL. Family moved to Coryell Co. prior to 1870,
establishing the BEVERLY ranch in what is now Fort Hood. John
SHERWOOD moved his wife, Nancy SHERWOOD and children Lula, Perry
and Frankie SHERWOOD, from Logan Co., IL to Coryell county about
1878. Nancy SHERWOOD'S maiden name is believed to be BARKER,
possibly related to Sophronia BARKER BEVERLY. Nancy SHERWOOD was
postmaster of the Beverly post office, located at the stage stop
on the BEVERLY ranch. She was also the first schoolteacher in the
Copperas Cove elementary school in 1883. Hanan Barker was
postmaster of Copperas Cove from 1901 to 1914, and was a
landowner somewhere in the area. John and Nancy SHERWOOD are my
fraternal grandparents. My father was Frankie SHERWOOD (correctly
Francis Marion SHERWOOD). Other siblings of Frankie, Perry and
Lula were Albert B. and Lesley C. SHERWOOD. The SHERWOOD family
farm, located on the Cowhouse Creek, near Pidcoke, was taken by
Fort Hood also.

KELLEY/ BEAN
I am atttempting to research my g-g-grandparents, Frank KELLEY
and Ida BEAN. Frank KELLEY was born in Texas, in 1873. Ida BEANE
was born in Texas, in 1875. They were married in (I believe) 1892
in Belton, Bell Co., Texas. They had 4 children that I am aware
of: Frank, b. 1894, Lorence, b. 1896, Zelma, b. 1897, and Vaida
M., b. 1899. I have no information on Frank's parents.
However,Ida's parents appear to have been WIlliam BEAN, b. 1844
in Mississippi, and Nelly BEAN, b. 1850 in Georgia. They appear
to have had 6 other children in addition to Ida. Their names:
Frederick, Osker, Bernice, Stella, and Milton. I am attempting to
find any onfo I can on these people's ancestors and descendants,
or pointers to information. One mystery I am attempting to solve
is the ethnicity of Ida BEANE. She is evidently listed as Black
in the 1900 Census. However, I have seen old photos of her and
her mother. Both of these women appear to be Caucasian
or,perhaps, Indian ancestry. Nelly's census entry for 1900 states
that she was born in Georgia. Her parents' birthplaces are
unknown. William BEAN's parents are listed as being born in
Virginia and Alabama. I'd appreciate any info anyone can point me
towards. Thanks a bunch!

CARTER/ WITTE/ WEASE/ RENFRO
I am searching for relatives of my father, Alfred Allen
CARTER,who was born in Houston,Texas in 1909. His father was
Hardin Hyphen CARTER, and his mother was Amelia (WITTE) CARTER.
Amelia (WITTE) CARTER died in 1911 when my father was age 2.
Hardin CARTER remarried. Name of second wife unknown, but my
father, Alfred CARTER ran away from home at age 13, because of
his "wicked stepmother", and a namby-pamby father who
would not speak up for him. His mother(Amelia WITTE CARTER) had 2
sisters Anna WITTE, and "Nettie" WITTE. Anna WITTE
married a man named Joseph WEASE. When my father ran away fron
home at age 13, he went to live with Anna and Joe WEASE for 5-6
years until he went to college at TExas A&M. Amelia WITTE
CARTER's other sister,"Nettie" married a man named
Frank RENFRO. Amelia WITTE CARTER also had an older
brother,"Willie" WITTE, who apparently worked for
Southern Pacific Railroad for many years and retired and died in
El Paso. My grandfather,Hardin CARTER, had 3 sisters(names
unknown), and 7 brothers(Asa,Joseph,Henry, plus 4 brothers whose
names are unknown. Hardin CARTER died in Houston around 1922.
